Mr C, Cheltenham
At Arden House Dental we repair damaged teeth using three types of dental filling.
Today the most common of these are tooth coloured,(white) composite fillings. These are as tough as traditional amalgam (silver) fillings when used correctly and although they take a little longer to place, no one will know you have one as the they will blend with your original teeth! Care and attention to detail using the latest materials ensures the most natural of results.
Silver amalgam fillings are hard wearing and last a long time, but, because they are silver, it’s obvious that you have a filling.
Unfotunately when either composite or amalgam are used for large fillings, particularly the latter, over time they can cause small fractures or stress lines within the tooth encouraging them to fracture.
Therefore, we can place ceramic fillings / restorations which are both incredibly strong and can still be matched to your tooth colour. They are used when a large filling still needs to still look like a tooth as they are stronger than the composite materials.
We make our own ceramic fillings here at Arden House Dental using CEREC, a specialist computer system that scans the tooth and cavity and then produces a ceramic filling that fits exactly into the cavity. When bonded into place it’s the perfect repair. Although ceramic fillings cost a little more to produce than other fillings their durability means they offer better value over their longer lifetime.
If you are unsure which filling would be best for your individual circumstances, amalgam, white composite fillings or ceramic, we would be happy to talk you through the different options available.
Our dentists are happy to explain the options and suggest the best one for you.
