sterilisation centre - protecting you

We know from surveys that cleanliness/hygiene is in the top 5 of things people most care about when they visit the dentist.

We call this cross infection control and it’s really important to us too.

All dentists need to follow guidelines from the Department of Health.  These guidelines set a minimum standard and then a target for “Best Practice”.  Dentists must meet the minimum.

We decided to go for Best Practice. We pride ourselves on our high standards and we have:

  • A custom designed Sterilisation Room where the management of clean and dirty instruments is tightly controlled
  • A custom designed instrument storage facility so clean instruments aren’t stored in the surgery
  • Automated cleaning equipment so we don’t have to clean instruments by hand
  • Top of the range sterilisers
  • A programme of tests and checks (which we audit) to make sure all the equipment is performing properly
  • A team trained in all aspects of infection control including hand hygiene, waste disposal, instrument transportation
  • The rigorous use of Personal Protective Equipment – this includes the use of gloves, masks, protective aprons, protective eyewear (for us and our patients)
  • A documented programme of cleaning and general housekeeping
  • An audit programme to make sure we are doing everything correctly – all the time!

We call ourselves a centre for excellence because we believe we are – as part of this, we care about your safety (and ours). If you have any questions about what we do, please ask Ian or any member of the nursing team.  Alternatively, please email us.
