keeping the plaque away!
why visit the hygienist?
Dental Care with Leanne Hobbs
It’s the job of our hygienists to clean your gums, teeth and the tooth surfaces that you can’t see. Their training also means they can give you advice on how things such as diet affect the overall health of your mouth.
Your teeth are supported by a complex structure of gums, ligaments and bone. They are like the foundations of a building and they are as important as your teeth.
Sometimes, despite healthy teeth, gums can become inflamed. It’s often painless and although there may be some signs (bleeding gums, bad breath) gum disease can work quietly at damaging these foundations.
We won’t automatically suggest you see a hygienist but we think prevention really is better than cure.
We believe good dental health is about far more than a “good clean at the dentists” so we may recommend one appointment or a series of appointments. It depends on what we see and what you tell us.
There are lots of reasons why an appointment could help :
- Wear braces? – cleaning round wires can be difficult; our hygienists can clean them for you and give tips on how to look after teeth and braces at home.
- Drink fruit juice or fizzy drinks? – the acid in these drinks can damage teeth; our hygienists can explain how to reduce the damage and find alternatives.
- Have trouble reaching the back? – arthritis or just a brush that’s too big; Lisa and Leanne can spot the problem and suggest solutions.
- Food gets trapped?- uncomfortable and unpleasant; the hygienist team can recommend products to help.
- Thinking about tooth whitening? – All whitening products contain a bleaching agent and it can do harm if we apply it to angry gums; our hygienists can get your gums in tip top condition.
