The British Dental Association, the Rugby Football Union and the English Hockey Association recommend custom-fit mouthguards over shop-bought ‘boil and bite’ products which may not fit properly and therefore can only offer sub-optimal protection.

Why choose a custom-fit mouthguard?

OPRO manufactures mouthguards for more than 1,000 schools and well known sports clubs nationwide. We would strongly advise anyone engaging in contact sports including lacrosse, martial arts, mountain biking and show jumping, along with the more traditional sports such as rugby and hockey, to wear one.

Having a dentist take your impression to ensure the best fit for both protection and comfort is more expensive than buying a generic mouthguard over the counter, but the advantages in comfort and safety far outweigh the extra cost. They are guaranteed to offer comfort and protection, are named, and offer uniform protection around each tooth.

Mouthguards are classed as items of personal protective equipment (PPE) and it is an offence to sell an item of PPE which does not bear the CE mark. It is also an offence to apply a CE mark if the class requirements are not met.

Our custom made mouthguards fit well enough to prevent some sports-related concussions by helping to absorb shock, stabilise the head and neck, and limit movement caused by a direct hit to the jaw.

Opro SmileGuard custom fit mouthguards start at £63. This price is based on Opro’s commitment to working with schools. The price reflects the protection type you require, the design or colour and any other additional options you choose.

What are the different levels of protection?

OPRO offers a range of protection levels with the following guidelines:

Mid-Impact: use for rugby, judo and other sports that do not use a hard stick or ball and where the head is not an intentional target.

Hi-Impact: use for hockey, lacrosse, boxing, martial arts and sports that do use a hard stick or ball, or where the head is a target.

Pro-Impact: these unique tri-laminate mouthguards combine the slimmer fit of a Mid-Impact with the extra protection of a Hi-Impact. They are suitable for the serious player looking for ultimate performance and comfort.

What additional options are available?

D30 mouthguard: a patented protective material, which absorbs more energy at the point of impact. It physically changes on impact and enables a 50% thinner mouthguard without compromising on protection or comfort.

Antimicrobial protection: this can be added to the mouthguards, in the case or both and is proven to protect the growth of bacteria by 99.99% and is even resistant to MRSA.
