Whilst we try to restore teeth whenever possible, sometimes a tooth needs to be removed because it is badly broken, has suffered trauma, excessive tooth wear, or through periodontal disease or decay. If this happens we can fix your smile so that no-one ever realises. Solutions include bridges, implants or a denture. If you’re unsure what’s best for you, your dentist will talk you through the range of options
A bridge is an artificial tooth that is permanently anchored to the tooth / teeth either side of the gap using crowns or a metal backing. Once fitted, a well-maintained bridge can last decades. A bridge offers an effective solution when the surrounding teeth and bone structure are strong enough to support the replacement tooth.
Dental implants are the modern and most long-term way to replace missing teeth. They are durable and can be made to appear as if they emerge from the gum in the same way as a natural tooth. Implants have gained in popularity over the years and now have the longest life and best success rate of any dental treatment; they also don’t rely on the neighbouring natural teeth so these can remain untouched. Today’s technology means an implant-retained crown is now virtually indistinguishable from a natural tooth.
A denture is a prosthetic device used to replace everything from a single tooth, multiple missing teeth or all the teeth in a jaw. There are more options available than ever before, and as well as the traditional removable dentures we also offer fixed dentures, which can only be removed by a dentist. We offer a number of options including standard acrylic, chrome, Valplast and implant retained dentures. Valplast dentures are modern and natural looking made from flexible material for improved comfort.
Depending on what you would like to achieve and your preferences, the team here at Arden House will discuss all the suitable options and help you decide how best to replace your teeth.
